William Ferguson, 66 awaits sentencing
Such burglary attempts as the one William Ferguson, 66, pulled six times in a row are seldom heard of. A serial casino burglar will serve no less than years behind the bars for stealing more than $20,000 worth of casino chips.
A jury convicted Ferguson in April 2021 of committing suchlike robberies at casinos across Las Vegas Back in 2009. These include New York-New York, Golden Nugget, the Palms, Binion’s, and Wynn Las Vegas. In addition to that, Ferguson has had felonies for similar offenses over the years. This repetitive record prompted Judge Trujillo to sentence the tried as a habitual criminal;
“This is a hard one because the habitual criminal statute proposes to deter repetitive behavior...And I’m not sure how much more repetitive you can get with steadily increasing your wealth from people and businesses of Clark County”
The Judge sentenced William Ferguson to no less than 8 years in prison for stealing over $20,000 in casino chips. Depending on William’s attitude throughout the process, this timeline may extend to as long as 20 years. This decision was also agreed on with the knowledge that Ferguson has stolen or attempted to steal over $150,000 in casino chips since the 1990s.
Ferguson was also reported to be screaming at Judge Trujillo, and behaving in a disorderly manner during the hearing: “You are very evil, evil, cold-hearted dogs,” as he once let out.
It is unusual to receive such a lengthy sentence for what would be considered a minor crime, but Ferguson’s history of undeniably tied offenses served as a concrete basis for accusing the man of a repeat offense criminal. There wasn’t any reason provided on Ferguson’s end to even consider reducing the sentence in light of his demeanor in court.
